PLANS to build a training centre at Tees and Hartlepool yacht club are set to be rejected by councillors.
The club has applied to build a training centre and steward's flat at its centre in West Harbour Fleet Avenue, Hartlepool.
The area is currently used to store and park yachts and dinghies, but the club wants to erect a two-storey building with classroom facilities for sailing training.
It has been suggested that the steward's flat would ensure there was a 24-hour presence on the site and would allow the building to be used for catering and as a bar.
Hartlepool Borough Council, which is set to make a decision on the new building at a meeting today, has received objections complaining about the lack of parking in the area.
In a report to the council, a spokesman for the planning department said: "Not only would the proposal result in the loss of boat storage space and parking spaces, but no additional spaces in respect of the development are proposed.
"It is considered that the development would result in the parking of cars on the road adjacent to the site to the detriment of road safety and the free flow of traffic,"
The officer went on to say that if a planning application for flats in the area was passed, the new training centre would affect the look of the area for potential residents.
The council has been recommended to refuse the application today
