THE final piece of one of the region's Millennium projects was lifted into place yesterday. The Millennium footbridge in Stockton has been built to link the thriving Teesdale development on the south bank of the Tees with Stockton town centre via the Castlegate shopping centre. High winds delayed the work, which involved a crane lifting the final bridge span into place high above Riverside Road. Steve Lumb, Stockton Borough Council's team leader on the project, said: "The footbridge will form an elegant landmark across the Tees. It will incorporate disabled access, security and feature lighting." The £1.3m bridge will be officially opened before Christmas.Picture: SARAH NICHOLSO
