THE WORK of a group of children battling to protect their local environment, is to be celebrated in Chester-le-Street tomorrow.
Wildthings, a group of youngsters aged eight to 12, got together last year to tackle some of the issues in the local environmental blueprint Local Agenda 21.
They have staged mini-plays, created banners getting the green message across, and produced postcards.
In Chester-le-Street Civic Centre council chambers tomorrow, council leader Councillor Malcolm Pratt will introduce the group then watch as they perform their story Poppin and the popcorn factory.
Later they will get the chance to meet a Sunderland AFC footballer - although he has yet to be confirmed.
With the help of storyteller Malcolm Green, and artist Trevor Atkinson, the group's mini-play tells the story of a family of mice and other woodland animals and how they treat their habitat and try to make it a better place to live.
Anyone wishing to attend should go to the council chambers between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow.
