A FORMER sawmills boss has been barred from acting as a director for four years.
Terence Jacques, of Bradley Cottage, Black Banks, Hamsterley, near Bishop Auckland, was disqualified at Durham County Court as a result of his misconduct as a director or Shildon Sawmills Ltd, which operated on the Hackworth Industrial Estate, Shildon, County Durham, from late 1985.
A compulsory winding up order was made against the company on June 24, 1998, with an estimated deficiency to creditors of more than £1.1m. More than £666,000 of this represented unpaid income tax, National Insurance contributions and VAT.
The hearing heard Jacques neglected the VAT affairs of the company by failing to submit returns and under-declaring VAT, resulting in an officer's assessment being issued for the recovery of £125,678
