SCHOOLCHILDREN have been stepping back in time at one of the region's leading attractions to improve their skills with numbers.
The Time Trek project, at York's Castle Museum, was developed by the York Mathematics Enhancement Programme, and the city's Museum Service.
It has been designed to support the national Maths 2000 initiative, and is aimed at encouraging local youngsters to develop their numeracy skills while enjoying a visit to the museum.
It has already proved so popular with local schoolchildren that the locally-based regional rail operator, Transpennine Express, has given sponsorship. That in turn has meant that the scheme has been able to expand to cover not just school visits, but also family visits to the Castle Museum, City Art Gallery and Yorkshire Museum.
Time Treks is an activity aimed at youngsters aged from four to 11 years.
They offer each child the opportunity to answer various questions relating to time and history.
It encourages them to have fun while they learn.
