Sunderland have resigned from the second division, ending their long association with the league.
The three rearranged first round Brian Adams Cup ties were played and all went according to form. Cleveland Fire annihilated Langbaurgh 13-0 and will entertain Dewentside in the next round. Darlington are in the semi-finals - courtesy of Sunderland's resignation. They are joined by Stockton who won a hard-fought match over Newcastle by the odd goal in five. Liam Denny (2) and Mick Higgin were Stockton's scorers while Neil Locker and Nick Gay got Newcastle's goals.
