ELDERLY residents of five Wear Valley housing schemes invited their local MP to make a double charity presentation.
Hanover Housing Association tenants in Bishop Auckland and Crook raised £612 with a spring fair and balloon race.
Bishop Auckland MP Derek Foster presented £312 to the eye laser appeal at Bishop Auckland General Hospital and £300 to the Imperial Cancer Fund. Consultant ophthalmologist Chrisjan Dees and the fund's Kevin Hunter accepted the gifts at a ceremony at Runnymede Court, Bishop Auckland, watched by estate managers Kathleen Metcalfe and Barbara Hopper. The £35,000 eye laser appeal aims to buy equipment for diabetic patients at Bishop Auckland, who at present have to travel to Darlington for treatment. The appeal stands at £28,000
