REDCAR and Cleveland Council's own Big Brother is retiring following 14 years of watching the public.
Neville Blantern, who is the borough's CCTV Manager, is confident that the council's Big Brother image is winning the fight against crime.
He said: "It's the people who have something to hide who don't like the cameras. They feel as if they're being watched by Big Brother - but people who have nothing to hide think it's a great idea."
The borough is now covered by 81 cameras with Guisborough next in line to join the scheme.
Mr Blantern said crime has reduced since the cameras arrived. Grangetown, for example, has seen a 70 per cent drop.
Mr Blantern plans to spend his retirement by reviving his golf skills and spending time with his granddaughter
