A LEAFLET has been produced by Darlington Borough Council to make shopping on the Internet safer for consumers.
The leaflet, produced by the council's trading standards department, advises shoppers to seek the best deals, as with any other type of purchase.
It also gives advice on how to check products and companies, how to arrange delivery and how to limit risks when buying from outside the UK.
Councillor Stephen Harker, Darlington council's cabinet member for community protection, said: "Internet shopping is rapidly increasing. It is easy, convenient, and it gives the consumer a vast range of choice, but there are risks attached. The leaflet provides a few useful hints to help shoppers."
The leaflet, called Shopping on the Internet - Better Safe Than Sorry, is available from the council's trading standards section, at 11 Houndgate, Darlington.
A free 12-page booklet is also available while stocks last, by calling 0845 130 8080. Information can also be found on the Internet at: www.tradingstandards.gov.uk
