A CAMPAIGN to attract teachers from ethnic minorities into the classroom is beginning to pay dividends.

The University of Northumbria, in Newcastle, launched a programme last year aimed at undergraduates, graduates and people from ethnic minorities who qualified overseas, who are interested in teaching.

Since then a number of new recruits from minority communities have enrolled on teaching courses, and university staff want more people to come forward to address the acute shortage of teachers from ethnic minorities.

Introductory sessions to the programme will take place next Friday and Saturday.
