GRATEFUL mother Mandy Conder is saying a big thank-you to the charity that helped her daughter cope with cancer - by sacrificing all her hair.
Her daughter Ellis is now four, but was only 19 months old when doctors found a tumour in her kidney.
The little girl had to undergo surgery and intensive chemotherapy, but toys and videos from the Candlelighters made her long stay in hospital more bearable.
Afterwards, the charity even paid for Mandy and Ellis to go on a week's holiday at Primrose Valley, near Filey.
Mandy decided to help the charity, and has already boosted its funds by about £1,200.
Now she plans to raise even more with the help of her friends Vicky Conder and Sharon Mearnes - when all three will have their heads shaved.
The big cut will take place at the Frankland Arms, at Thirsk, on November 10, at 8pm, when staff from Michael's Hair Salon, of Bedale, where Mandy works, will do the honours.
"The Candlelighters were brilliant," said Mandy.
"The toys they provided at the hospital help take the children's minds off it all and the holiday was tremendous.
"I just want to give back to Candlelighters, because I think they have been really good to me and the children in the hospital. I feel we owe them something as a thank-you."
On the night, there will be entertainment and a raffle. Admission will be £1.
