l CARNOUSTIE: Tough links course on the northern shores of the Firth of Tay which is a challenge for any player, even on the calmest day. Returned to the Open rota in 1999.
l LOCH LOMOND: Often described as the best golf course built in Britain in the past 25 years, the inland course on the shores of Loch Lomond includes the longest hole in Scotland at 635 yards.
l CELTIC MANOR: The course Wales has pinned its hopes on is planned to be the biggest golfing resort in Britain by 2009 with five courses and an 800-bedroom hotel.
