SHOWBUSINESS charity The Royal Variety Club of Great Britain, has put 100 special school children on the road for the third time.

Warwick Road Special School, Bishop Auckland, has been presented with its latest Sunshine Coach, which is already being used daily.

The 15-seat Ford Transit bus ferries pupils to and from the school, and on a wide range of educational activities.

The school's previous Sunshine Coach lasted ten years before it became too expensive to repair, and the Variety Club stepped in with a replacement.

Earlier this year, parents and staff mounted a campaign to raise the school's £5,000 contribution to the bus.

Headteacher Geoff Price was presented with the vehicle at a ceremony at Tall Trees Country Club, near Yarm. He said it would be a great help to the school's pupils, who are aged between four and 16 and suffer from varying degrees of learning difficulty.

He said: "The bus will do a huge mileage. It has been used every day since we got it.
