A COUNCIL is making it easier for residents to go green by adding a new fortnightly collection to its rounds.
Families living in Middlesbrough will be able to recycle old newspapers and magazines thanks to bag collections started by the borough council, in partnership with Cheshire Recycling and Roseberry Recycling.
They are targeting 25,000 households in the initial phase of the project, and hope to extend the scheme across the town in the coming months.
It is estimated that the collectors will obtain 4,000 tonnes of papers a year for recycling.
As an added bonus, they will make a £1 donation to the Save the Children Fund for every tonne of paper processed.
Councillor Kath Bevington, Middlesbrough's Mayor, said : "I am delighted we are making recycling a lot easier for residents across the town.
"The scheme helps everyone help Middlesbrough retain and improve its 'Environment City' reputation.
"Think globally, but act locally is the environmental watchword, and just by taking a little time every couple of weeks, thousands of local people can help us save precious natural resources."
