A Derwentside youth club was celebrating a double cash windfall this week.
The recently-opened heritage display of photographs at Consett YMCA has received a £500 grant from County Durham Foundation to help organiser Billy Robson expand the exhibition.
Such has been the success of the display of pictures of Consett Steelworks and the surrounding area, that the centre has been swamped with offers of photographs from interested residents.
Meanwhile, a group of seven boys and girls from the club have got the opportunity to receive first-class football coaching with the help of a £600 grant from the Key Fund through Investing in Children.
The group will be taught skills and tactics by FA coaches at Darlington, before using their new-found abilities to help coach local children.
Consett YMCA senior worker Billy Robson said: "These awards will help us build self esteem among disaffected youngsters on Derwentside.
"The heritage display is going from strength to strength, and the FA coaching scheme will help the group to really put something back into the community."
l Consett YMCA Action Group girls' football team plays Moorside District Girls, at Moorside Comprehensive School, Consett, on Saturday, November 25. Both teams will consist of players aged nine to 17.
