YOUNGSTERS at Darlington's Raventhorpe Preparatory School now have the use of a new library, thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts of their parents.
The school held a millennium ball in June, for parents, organised by Marina Collins, which raised more than £5,000 to convert a classroom into a library, and equip it.
Previously, youngsters had had to make do with a small number of books in their own classroom.
The library was opened this week by The Northern Echo's environment correspondent John Dean and his mother Doreen, who have both published children's books.
Headteacher Doreen Procter said: "They came and cut the ribbon and unveiled a plaque.
"We now have a new facility with both fiction books to borrow, and non-fiction for school work. A library will encourage children's enjoyment of books."
