A mayor is making history by marching with Second World War veterans on Remembrance Sunday.
Councillor Kath Bevington, an ex-RAF clerical worker, now the Mayor of Middlesbrough, is leading a procession of ex-service personnel and cadets to lay wreaths at the town's Cenotaph.
It is the first time that a Middlesbrough mayor has marched with the veterans. She will walk for more than a mile from the Royal British Legion Club, in the town centre, to the Cenotaph.
Walking with her will be her teenage daughter, Melissa, the Mayoress.
Liz Chambers, spokeswoman for the Royal British Legion, Middlesbrough branch, said: "The vets are over the moon.
In the past, the dignitaries have just emerged from the front of the Dorman Museum, beside the Cenotaph.
Coun Bevington said: "I want to give what is a very special occasion as high a profile as possible.
"It is extremely important we don't forget the people who fought to preserve our freedom. Neither should we forget the Land Girls, doctors, nurses and all non uniformed personnel who made such a contribution to the war effort.'
