POLICE have renewed a public appeal to help trace two robbers who carried out a vicious attack on a pizza delivery driver.
The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday after a telephone order was made to Rumblebelly's Pizzeria, in Bondgate, Bishop Auckland, to an address in the nearby village of Cockfield.
At 2.45am, the man arrived at Garden House Lane and had just turned his car around in the cul-de-sac when two men approached his red F-registered Vauxhall Astra and grabbed his arm and twisted it behind his back.
The robbers then banged his head against the roof of his car before stealing an undisclosed amount of money, a kebab and a pizza. They then escaped across nearby wasteland. The victim suffered shock and received treatment for a head wound.
Police believe the robbery could have been deliberately planned, and that the two attackers are from the Cockfield area.
The two men police are hunting in connection with the robbery are both in their late teens or early twenties. They are both white and of medium build.
PC Mike Burn said: "We have had very little feedback from the public on this one and we are eager to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Cockfield area from 1.30am onwards to contact us."
Anyone with information about the robbery can contact Detective Constable Neil Jones or PC Burn, at Bishop Auckland Police, on (01388) 603566.
