BUILDING work to convert an old football ground into a recreational haven for the whole community is progressing ahead of schedule.
Staff from the South Bank Community Forum, say the Golden Boy Green development, in South Bank, near Middlesbrough, dedicated to the memory of Middlesbrough soccer legend Wilf Mannion, is moving ahead rapidly.
The next stage of the development, which is now expected to be completed by Christmas, will see environmental and landscaping improvements being carried out and preparations being made for the installation of a time capsule.
Designed to be reopened in 50 years' time, the capsule will contain items relevant to the whole community and will be sealed in the reception area of the Golden Boy Green building.
Helen Duckering, a Community Forum Project development worker, said: "We have a list of groups who want to be involved in putting something in the capsule; local schools, South Bank Women's Centre, Reflections of South Bank, and many, many more."
