FOR the past three years, adults have been returning to school to learn new skills.
Through a collaboration with New College, Durham, an increasing range of courses has been offered.
The over-50s have enjoyed swimming, healthy living and computing courses.
Others have learned cake-decorating, modern foreign languages, mathematics and information and communications technology (ICT).
The community education programme runs swimming classes on Wednesdays, at 6.30pm, at a cost of £10 for ten weeks.
The latest development, backed by funding of nearly £200,000, is the opening of a UK On-Line Centre, early next year. The ICT centre will be open to everyone in the community, giving free access to the latest computing and communications technology.
It is a great boost to the community, and a chance for adults to learn new skills to improve their employment prospects.
