Roseberry Sunday Invitation League
Thirsk were fortunate to catch a break in the atrocious weekend weather to complete a rearranged fixture with Northallerton which they won 1-0.
A young Northallerton team began quite brightly but their enthusiasm was soon dampened by Thirsk's fast passing game. But Thirsk failed to capitalise on some quality possession and accurate midfield supply, capably led by Hannah Rogers which earned here the opposition's player of the match award.
Thirsk were continually thwarted by excellent defensive work by Lisa Cleminson and a very talented performance from young keeper Maureen Heaney.
Thirsk continued their bombardment with shots from Lesley Dowell, Karen Skiping, Katherine Bower and Bev Garner. Thirsk were finally rewarded with a goal from Garner.
Heaney was nominated Northallerton's player of the match.
Stockton were were good value for their 3-0 over New Dales. Stockton were denied a goal on several occasions and the deadlock was eventually broken when an accurate pass from Cath Iley was converted by Emma Renwick who was the provider for a second goal, her cross seized upon with impeccable timing by Elaine Dyer.
New Dales, two goals down, were calm under pressure and displayed skills in the midfield but failed to apply real pressure on Stockton's defence.
Caroline Jones set up Stockton's third with an accurate pass to find Iley and the New Dales keeper was left stranded with a precisely-placed shot.
Players of the match - Kath Iley (Stockton), Julie Fawcett (New Dales).
Barnard Castle gained a 2-0 victory over Stokesley.
Broom
IN the last minute Broom scored the goal which gave them their first victory in North Division One this season at the Riverside on Saturday, defeating newly-promoted Driffield from which Caroline Brown blasted the ball home from the edge of the D to take victory. Broom have moved into fifth place and hope to continue winning ways when they travel to old rivals York tomorrow.
Broom seconds could not make up a two-goal deficit on Stockton in Durham Division Two on Saturday but young vice-captain Beth Ashbridge restored some pride in the second half to pull back a goal resulting in a 2-1 defeat.
