MODELS produced by Sunderland students have gone on display at an exhibition dedicated to one of the country's greatest engineers.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel: Recent Works is being held at the Design Museum, in London, until February.
Brunel, hailed as the world's first industrial designer, designed the Saltash Bridge linking Devon and Cornwall, Paddington Station in London and the Clifton Suspension at Bristol.
Gary Stobbs, Philip Richardson, Russell Degnan and Lewis Collins, who are students on the university's model making and design and design and technology programmes, constructed models from a range of materials including steel and plaster.
Their work includes a 25ft scale model of the Saltash Bridge and reproductions of the Renkioi Hospital, in Turkey.
While studying the bridge, they discovered that Brunel used the architectural device known as the golden section.
Lecturer John Tyrell said: "We are delighted to have this opportunity to show our work in the Design Museum.
"The students spent 12 weeks working on the project, and it has given them valuable experience of a professional working environment," he said.
