A MAN who suffered severe burns in a gas explosion was said to be "improving" last night.
The victim, in his thirties, was injured in an explosion at his home in Newlands Road, Middlesbrough, on Friday.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit at Middlesbrough General Hospital suffering from severe burns to his head, torso and arms.
Last night, a spokesman for the hospital said that, although he was still in intensive care, his condition was "improving".
The explosion, which happened at about 5pm, is thought to have been caused by a gas leak.
A Transco spokesman said an investigation was under way. He said: "An investigation has been undertaken by the Health and Safety Executive.
