YOUNG athletes who completed the junior version of the Great North Run have been presented with their own medals.
A group of 32 pupils from South Stanley Junior School, in Stanley, completed the three- mile route on the day before the adult version.
During the event, the nine to 11-year-olds jogged from Gateshead Stadium, along the Felling bypass, and back to the stadium.
Headteacher Alan Black said: "As part of the national Fit for Sport campaign the children had a few trial runs in the summer, and the ones who did well were put forward for the Junior Great North Run.
"We are delighted that they managed to finish the three-mile route."
