A WOMEN'S centre manager has been recognised with a top award for serving as an example to her sex.

Sue Anderson, manager of the South Bank Women's Centre, near Middlesbrough, has been named the Tees Valley Woman of Achievement 2000.

Designed to recognise those at the height of their areas of expertise, the award covers a wide range of posts in both the business and health sectors.

In her role at the women's centre, Sue has spearheaded voluntary sector activities and established relationships with the Asian community. She has also secured funding from the National Lottery, the Government and Europe to improve community prospects.

She said: "I felt really proud to receive the award. It has put South Bank Women's Centre on the map."

Now Mrs Anderson is looking forward to building on her success.

"We always have new ideas planned for the women's centre, but they depend on secure funding," she said.

"As for me, I'd like to work abroad, eventually doing similar work, but who knows what the future might hold?
