STUDENTS at a Spennymoor School were among hundreds of County Durham youngsters who took part in tree planting sessions in memory of Jewish diarist Anne Frank.
The students planted white blossom cherry trees in the wildlife oasis in the school's grounds.
The memorial was attended by sixth formers and staff, and students read passages from Anne Frank's diary and information about her life.
Anne Frank died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945, weeks before the end of the Second World War.
She wrote her diary while hiding with her family.
An exhibition will be held about her life and times at Durham Cathedral from today until November 26.
