VILLAGERS can see final plans of a £90,000 scheme to improve a dangerous stretch of the A68, at a public meeting tomorrow.

Speeding on the A68 through Tow Law, near Wolsingham, has been a cause of concern for residents for years.

But thanks to European funding, the area will become safer, with a project to improve safety and make the road more attractive.

The project will focus on the area near Dans Castle, and is expected to lead to a bigger scheme to improve other parts of the A68 corridor.

Tow Law Councillor Ron Grogan said: "The main thing is providing proper parking bays for each house at Dans Castle, and putting traffic calming measures along the road. Some shrubs will also be planted so it will brighten the area up a bit.

"All the residents have been consulted on the plans."

Tow Law Community Partnership is working with Durham County Council, Wear Valley District Council and Groundwork West Durham on the scheme.

Groundwork West Durham is hosting the public meeting to discuss the final plan.

Officers from Durham County Council will be present to discuss accident prevention measures in Tow Law.

The meeting will be held at Tow Law Community Centre, beginning at 6.30pm.
