A PLAN is to be drawn up to ensure no more damage is done to the grass at Darlington's South Park.
The park has suffered badly in recent months from a combination of heavy vehicles churning up the ground and wet weather.
Now, with the weekend's fireworks event out of the way, council chiefs will prepare a plan to help keep the park in the best condition possible.
Council spokesman Steve Jones said: "We are developing a plan to return it to its normal state, and may look at reseeding it in spring.
"We will then look to see what we can do to make sure this sort of damage does not happen again."
Because of the wet weather council, staff will leave the heavy equipment used for the fireworks display on the park until it can be moved in drier conditions.
The park will then be levelled off, and work carried out to reinforce the entrances to the park, which have been churned up particularly badly.
Mr Jones said: "We will be contacting all the people that live around the park, and letting them know what work is being planned, and when we are doing it.
"We do want to say thanks to them for their understanding of the situation, and give them a guarantee that we will put things right."
