A NUMBER of initiatives are being set up to improve Darlington's chances in the floral "oscars".
The town's moment of glory came in 1997, when it won a first prize in the Britain in Bloom competition.
Darlington has fared less well in recent years, and the local authority is seeking to get back on top.
Among the initiatives which have been proposed to improve Darlington's application in 2001 include the setting up of a bloom committee.
The committee would focus on improving floral displays.
Schools and local organisations will also be encouraged to get more involved.
