DISABLED readers in Darlington now have a mobile library service they can use in the town centre.
Wheelchair users and people who have difficulty climbing steps are unable to use the main library in Crown Street because of problems with access.
The mobile library has a hydraulic step lift, which can raise wheelchairs and standing passengers into the van.
Libraries manager Peter White said: "The mobile library is a temporary measure because disabled people can not get access into the library at present.
"We are working closely with the Darlington Association on Disability's access interest group to find a solution to the problem."
The library will be parked near to Shopmobility on alternate Thursdays, from 1pm to 2.30pm
