A GUILT-RIDDEN driver handed over forged insurance documents to a court before confessing his crime to court staff just minutes later.
Paul Smith, 23, was asked to produce his insurance documents after being stopped by police in Pity Me, County Durham, on December 8 last year.
At Chester-le-Street magistrates court he handed over a certificate of insurance and a letter from his employer stating that his Vauxhall Astra was covered by the firm's policy.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how just minutes after the hearing, Smith confessed he no longer worked for the company and had no insurance of his own.
Smith, of Linden Mews, Langley Park, County Durham, admitted one charge of perverting the course of justice and was ordered to complete 150 hours community service
