CAMPAIGNERS trying to preserve a unique piece of art, that highlights the plight of victims of domestic violence in north Durham, have scored a success.
Derwentside District Council agreed to allow the Derwentside Domestic Violence Forum, and Theatre Cap a Pie, to continue to use a house to create a scene of violence in the home.
The house, at Rogerley Terrace, in Catchgate, near Annfield Plain, was originally only given to the groups for a two- week project, but it will now stay open until December 15.
National Lottery bosses have agreed to extend funding to the theatre group, to allow youngsters to continue to enact roles of abusers and abused in a family situation.
Clues are left around the property to hint that something is seriously wrong in the home. Social workers and councillors were so moved by the work that they lobbied the council to keep it open, partly as an educational tool.
The home is open at set times to organisations. Police, social workers, youth clubs and schools have used it. To arrange a viewing call Theatre Cap a Pie on (01207) 520011.
