NEW figures have shown that one of Hambleton's most popular tourist attractions is continuing to pull in the crowds.
Visitor numbers at the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum in Great Ayton, the village where the explorer spent his childhood, have risen by over ten per cent this year.
A record 3,120 people visited the centre this year- over 800 more than in 1998, delighting tourism chiefs.
In the past two years, the Captain Cook Schoolroom Trust has spent almost £200,000 on refurbishments.
Trust chairman, Dr Ken Coatsworth, said: "It appears that the museum is bucking the national trend of falling visitor figures. We are delighted to see our figures continuing to rise - we hope to see that once more next season.
