Hetton Youth League
Two sides progressed in the Durham County Youth Cup. Springwell recorded an outstanding 9-0 victory at home to Darlington Cleveland Bridge when Scott Robinson rifled four goals and Daniel Clark hit a hat-trick. Cleveland Bridge's misery was compounded when Chris Feasey and Neil Copeland also found the net.
Dunlop were not far behind Springwell in the scoring stakes. They ended 7-0 ahead of Swalwell when man of the match Gary McCourtney struck three times.
One game was played in the league and Ryhope celebrated their third victory of the season, defeating Springboard 8-1. The result was effectively settled inside the opening 20 minutes when Ryhope led 4-0 with goals by Russ Brown (2), Chris Robson and Brian Smiles.
After the break Brown completed his hat-trick, Robson scored again and after Mark Thompson had made it 7-0 an own goal increased the total to eight.
The best goal of the match, however, was recorded by Springboard when they were 8-0 down. David Whittle, Springboard's man of the match, fired in a tremendous effort.
New County North Durham Youth League
Waldridge Park easily progressed in the League Shield defeating Chopwell 6-1 when the goals flowed from Stephen Dawson (2), Kyle Stobard (2), Mark Howey and Carl Richie.
Sandhole made it into the next round, winning 3-2 at Stocksfield whose two goals were recorded by Keith Brown. Keith Regan also scored twice and Paul Bellamy once for Sandhole.
Hebburn Clegwell saw off Haydon Bridge's challenge by a 3-1 margin thanks to goals from Stephen George (2) and Colin Lucas. Carl Phillips was the Haydon Bridge scorer.
The tie between Consett and Felling Magpies was postponed.
In the Under-17 division South Shields had the better of Derwent Valley following a closely fought contest. Gary Stephenson and Ian Nescarf netted for the Shieldsmen with Darren Roberts on target for Derwent Valley.
Consett put nine goals past Lanchester who replied three times through Dale Clark (2) and Michael Tennant. Mark Turner hit four goals for the Steelmen whose other scorers were Carl Reay (2), David Coulson (2) and Chris Elliott.
Chester-le-Street Juniors
The U-17s were the only side in action. In their league cup replay against Felling Magpies at Moor Park, the visitors had the worst possible start when goalkeeper Peter Robinson was dismissed after five minutes for bringing down Craig Patterson. Dean Burns scored from the penalty spot. In a scrappy first half, Felling rallied strongly after the dismissal and equalised direct from a free-kick through Michael Sutcliffe. After the break substitute Phillip Curry put Chester back in front with his first touch of the game, but the home side failed to stamp their authority on a dismal game and it was no surprise when Steven Dunn's late flying header took the game into extra-time.
Chester became increasingly impatient as they struggled to break down hard-working ten men Felling, but the breakthrough finally came in the second period of extra-time when Craig Patterson bustled his way through to score. Patterson then went clear on goal a few minutes later and netted the fourth. He was denied his hat-trick when a fine header was tipped over the bar.
Felling man of the match Michael Sutcliffe pulled one back for the visitors towards the end of extra time but it was too little too later for the brave visitors. Craig Thorn was Chester's top man
