Darlington and District League
Spraire switched their game to opponents Rothmans' ground and despite the absence of a match official both sides kept their heads and fought out an entertaining 1-1 drawpraire. In difficult conditions both sides tried to play entertaining football, but in the end it came down to a trial of strength and stamina.
Spraire failed to convert early chances but just before half time Gavin Rose headed home a right wing cross. Rothmans came back strongly in the second half and got a deserved equaliser when Craig Hutchinson finished off a fine solo run with a well-taken goal.
Spraire were indebted to their man of the match, goalkeeper Liam Coleman who made a brilliant save in the dying seconds to deny Rothmans the win. Scorer Craig Hutchinson was Rothmans' star player.
DGSOB were the only other team to play, travelling to Roddymoor in the second round of the Auckland Charity Cup but their journey was in vain as they lost 8-0.
Leading scorers: 19 Stephen Houlahan (Chilton Seniors), Steven Johnson (East End WMC).
Man of the match awards: 4 Steven Johnson; 3 Stephen Houlahan, Danny Richmond (Cleveland Bridge), Michael Weston (RA Social), Kevin Baines (Shuttle and Loom).
