Stockton gained their third league win with a 1-0 home win over defiant Guisborough who were sunk by a late penalty stroke.
Stockton's pressure was absorbed well by a skilful Guisborough defence which remained tight, giving Stockton little room for manoeuvre and Guisborough keeper Claire Giles proved too strong and stopped several of Stockton's on target shots.
Stockton finally broke the deadlock in the second half. Captain Emma Renwick started the move, passing the ball to the waiting Liz Thompson with the keeper stranded but the ball was cleared off the line by the foot of a Guisborough defender resulting in a penalty stroke award. Liz Thompson converted the opportunity with a brilliantly executed flick.
Players of match: Caroline Jones (Stockton) and Claire Giles (Guisborough).
Thirsk toppled champions and league leaders Roseberry, unbeaten in six games, with a 2-1 victory. Thirsk bombarded Roseberry's defence time and time again with Hannah Rogers playing an important central attacking role for Thirsk. Thirsk were rewarded with a cracking goal from Karen Skippings, the ball rebounding off Roseberry keeper Claire Ascough's pads.
The second-half started well for Thirsk, having a lot of attacking play with Bev Garner, Skippings and Holly Bainbridge all applying a lot of pressure. Ascough made many a good save and slowly Roseberry put the Thirsk goal under pressure. Thirsk held on solidly with Julie Bower working extremely hard in a defensive midfield role, the pressure was soaked up by Anita Young, Bev Longthorne and Ruth Vasey and of course keeper Val Grainger. Eventually Roseberry wore down the Thirsk defence and equalised from a penalty corner. With only four minutes left of the game Thirsk, again through Julie Bower, producing a central solo run and striking the ball across the circle where Holly Bainbridge, on the far post, was rewarded with a deflected goal.
Players of Match: Ruth Graham (Thirsk) and Claire Ascough (Roseberry).
Other results: Norton 1, Barnard Castle 4; Mackinlay 4, New Dales 0; Northallerton 1, Stokesley 2
