Camerons Teesside League
THE clash of the top two teams survived the weather, as surprisingly did four other league matches. Cargo Fleet took the lead after 25 minutes through a Ray Teasdale penalty, his ninth goal of the season, but unbeaten Acklam SW hit back to win 2-1.
Five minutes later the leaders were back on level terms when Dave Lawson scored and Acklam grabbed the winner in the 55th minute, courtesy of an own goal.
Acklam hold a three-point advantage over Fleet and seven points clear of Nunthorpe Athletic who were represented the North Riding County in the Northern Counties Cup at Liverpool.
BEADS had a rearranged home match against Thornaby, as their scheduled match away to Bedale was postponed because of Bedale's cup commitments. BEADS suffered a 4-21 defeat. In a tight first half the visitors took a 30th-minute lead through Darren Fixture who fired home from 20 yards. Just before half-time, Michael Walker equalised. In the second half on the heavy pitch Thornaby were on top and in the 65th minute a debatable penalty was awarded to Thornaby, Fixture gave the visitors the lead for the second time with his second of the. But back came the home side and they levelled again in the 73rd minute through Dean Talukder.
But two minutes later Thornaby took the lead for the third time when Marty Moore broke clear with the home side vainly appealing for offside and in the last minute Kris Townsend tapped home from what looked like an offside position to wrap up a win which resulted in the teams changing places in the table.
The surprise result of the weekend was at Carlin How where visitors Guisborough Town Reserves gained a 2-1 victory. Guisborough took a 26th minute lead when a deflected pass off Jason Couse ran out to the right hand wing where Liam Thompson fired a cross-shot over Carlin How keeper Mark Hackett. Two minutes later Carlin How were back on level terms when a Steve Starsmore free-kick was well parried by Guisborough keeper Richard English but his one-handed save fell to Stuart Davies who rammed the ball home. In the second period, the visitors looked more likely to score and they clinched the points in the 79th minute when David Lamb beat the offside trap and ran on to round Harkin in goal to tap home and secure his team's third consecutive win.
Richmond Town bounced back from last week's thrashing by BEADS to record their first win for four weeks, beating basement club Mackinlay Park 3-0. They took a tenth minute lead through a first of the season from Michael Sartini. Eight minutes before half time the writing looked on the wall for the Redcar side when Mark Partridge with his first of the season made it 2-0, going in at half time. In the second half the visitors, trying to end a run of six consecutive defeats, pressed forward but were caught out in the 65th minute when Michael Dale broke clear and secured a comfortable win.
On a heavy pitch in which few chances were created, Grangetown and Thornaby Youth Club figured in a goalless draw. The Hollybush United against New Marske SC along with Whitby Town Reserves and Stokesley SC were both postponed.
Bedale Athletic crashed 4-1 at Fishburn Park in the North Riding Senior Cup. The tie was switched to Bedale whose ground is rarely unplayable - but the move did not profit them. The Whitby side took a 25th minute lead through Simon Bowes but five minutes before half time Paul Taite levelled. Ten minutes into the second half Fishburn took the lead gain through Duncan Marson. On the hour John Smith just about wrapped up the win to secure a second round preliminary match against Wearside League side New Marske. In the 70th minute the Whitby side rounded off their win when a penalty was awarded and Bowes scored.

A Hoggarth and Sons Eskvale and Cleveland League
Highland Laddie, playing against the slope, were a goal down at half-time in the North Riding Cup at Fishburn Park. But they made conditions count in their favour in the second period to run out 5-1 winners. Scorers were Nigel Farndale, Paul Neesham, Danny Layton and Mark Paisley (2).
Leyburn were the better team throughout against Huntsman and won 3-0 through goals from Richard Meehan (2) and James Wilkinson.
Three defensive mistakes in the first ten minutes proved costly for Great Ayton as home team Swale Travaux took full advantage and raced into a three-goal lead, ending 5-2 winners. Richard Hore pulled a goal back but Ayton dominated the remainder of the half but were guilty of poor finishing and could not reduce the deficit. The second half went Ayton's way but Christopher Briggs in the home goal was in outstanding form and denied Colin Murray and Hore. At the other end Swale were awarded a penalty but Stuart Readman pulled off a fine save. Swale did increase their lead on the break before Murray netted for Ayton. In the closing minutes Swale netted again to secure the win. Scorers for Swale were William McCauley, Derek Welland, Andrew Kelly and John Potter (2) Byers and Haley King's Head, leaders from the Stokesley League, face Boosbeck, top team from the Eskvale and Cleveland League. Home side King's Head made home advantage count, edging to a 2-1 victory. Brian Crawley gave the home side the lead with a header with Boosbeck replying through the league's leading marksman Shane Breckon. Crawley restored the lead with a strong shot giving goalkeeper Paul Chisman no chance. Crawley hit the crossbar while Breckon had a chance to level the game but fired wide. With the winds at their back the home side looked well in control and Chisman did well to deny Crawley on two more occasions and keep Boosbeck in the game but their midfield failed to create chances and King's Head ran out worthy winners.
Other results: St Mary's College 4, Lealholm 3; Spennithorpe and Harmby 3, Anchor 2; Ennis Square 2, Grangetown YC 5.
The Lingdale Utd and Dormans match was postponed because there was no referee while a waterlogged pitch resulted in the postponement of the Redcar Mackinlay Park and Staithes tie.
The three league games were postoned because of waterlogging: Grosmont v Loftus YC, Hinderwell v Brotton, Loftus Ath v Goldsborough.
