RESIDENTS on an estate undergoing a major transformation are being offered advice on becoming self-employed.
The Sherburn Road Estate, on the outskirts of Durham, is getting a multi-million pound facelift to improve the environment, reduce crime and boost job opportunities.
From next week, confidential advice sessions will be held for people wanting to be their own boss.
They will be run by the Chester-le-Street and City of Durham Enterprise Agency, at 59 Londonderry Avenue, between 10am and 4pm. Sandra Quigley, an advice worker who will run the weekly sessions, said: "Sometimes, people just need reassurance to motivate them to take the plunge.
"There are many opportunities around for self-motivated people, who are willing to work hard.''
Eventually, the sessions will be held in a £600,000 resource centre, being built at Haig Crescent.
The Pelaw Centre, which will have a creche, cafe and computer facilities, is due to open later this year.
