A MAN was critically ill in hospital last night after being struck by a Metro train.
A police spokesman said the 48-year-old man, who has not been named, suffered chest injuries in the accident at Chillingham Road station in Heaton, Newcastle, on Thursday night.
The spokesman said: "The man ended up under the first carriage of a train heading towards the coast on platform one. There was no one else involved and there were no suspicious circumstances."
The man was detained in Newcastle General Hospital, where his condition was described last night as critical but stable.
