RESIDENTS on a Newton Aycliffe estate say they are pleased that several houses have been demolished.
A number of derelict properties in the West Ward area of town have been pulled down in recent weeks.
Silverdale Place, Langdale Place, Linden Place, Whinlatter Place and Elmfield Place are among streets affected by the demolitions.
The properties had deteriorated through vandalism and residents were fed up with the image they projected.
Enid Paylor, chairman of the Williamfield Residents' Association, said: "We're happy with the demolitions and when the contractors get the ground sorted out where they've been pulled down it will be even better."
Residents have been concerned that Sedgefield Borough Council is planning wholesale demolitions in the areas.
A meeting was held to try and allay the fears, but Mrs Paylor said people are still concerned about future plans
