A STUDENT has scooped a major award for her skills in website design.
Emma Hayward, 23, of Ferryhill, County Durham, was part of the team which claimed a prestigious prize in the Guardian Student Media Awards.
She was one of the editors of the Hull Wired site, which she worked on last year as a student at Hull University. It contains news, music features, sport, technology and other information on student life at Hull.
Emma, whose parents still live in Ferryhill, and her three colleagues were presented with their award at a ceremony in a London nightclub.
She said: "We didn't think we would win and we were so shocked, because we only set it up about a year ago."
Their prize was a week's work experience at Guardian Online, a flight to anywhere in Europe with Go Airlines and £2,000 between them.
Emma, who studied Italian at university, is living in London and doing temporary work. She enjoyed working on the website so much that she is now hoping to find a job in the media.
