EMERGENCY flood banks may be erected to protect Bishop Auckland from being deluged again.
Homes in South Church and West Auckland narrowly escaped being flooded for a second time this year when the River Gaunless broke its banks.
To prevent another threat to local homes, flood banks may be erected along the river from Spring Gardens to West Auckland.
Officials from the Environment Agency met officers of Wear Valley District Council on Friday, to look at the river and consider the possibility of creating the defences within the next few weeks.
There are currently several permanent flood defence schemes being considered.
These range from installing a floodwater reservoir to widening the river.
However, it is anticipated that most projects will not be completed before the start winter next year
