YOUNGSTERS at a Teesside school celebrated the opening of two libraries last week with a literacy day.
The libraries are in the junior and senior departments of Teesside High School, in Eaglescliffe.
Both cost almost £30,000, which was raised by the school's Parent Teacher Association.
Guest of honour Wendy Robertson, who writes historical fiction, opened the senior library before talking to pupils about being a writer and looking at pieces of writing by youngsters.
Hilary French, headteacher, said: "A lot of research has been done on the importance of reading and the confidence it gives to children as they develop and attain new skills. We are delighted with the efforts of the PTA and other friends of the school who have made it possible for us to open two well-stocked libraries, which will bring immense pleasure to our girls."
The junior library was opened by the winner of a fancy dress competition featuring characters from children's books, and judged by school catering manager Jean Simpson
