ENVIRONMENT Secretary John Prescott has given the go-ahead for the building of a DIY and garden centre at Skippers Lane, South Bank, near Middlesbrough.
He had "called in" the application rather than let Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council make the decision.
Mr Prescott said the new store was unlikely to have an adverse impact on the vitality and viability of neighbouring shops. A local planning inquiry was held last August, and the inspector who chaired it, Mr Steven Fox, recommended approval.
