FIVE female generations of the same family shared an emotional moment when they met for the first time in Ferryhill.

May Katherine Hutchinson, 87, became a great-great-grandmother when Shannon Louise Short was born at the end of last month.

However, she had to wait ten days to see the new addition to her extended family.

Shannon's mum Leanne Elizabeth, 16, now lives in Hull with her mother Sharon Elizabeth, 35.

When the baby was born they were determined to pay a visit to their home town to get all the family together.

The whole family gathered together for the first time at the Ferryhill home of Sarah Elizabeth Short, 57, who is May's daughter and Shannon's great-grandmother.

Sharon, who arranged the event, said: "It was the first time we've all been together and it was overwhelming - my nana filled up, she really did."

Now that the family has met, Sharon says they are hoping to make reunions a regular event.

She said: "We're going to come back to get a Christmas photograph done as well, and we're just going to keep coming up to Ferryhill to try and spend as much time together as we can."
