MURDER hunt detectives have received a setback in their hunt for the killer of a 21-year-old Teesside prostitute.

The naked remains of Vicky Glass were found on a stretch of remote North Yorkshire moorland just over a week ago.

But a thorough search of the site where her body was discovered above the village of Danby has failed to turn up a single item of her clothing.

This suggests that Vicky, who disappeared almost seven weeks ago, may have been murdered elsewhere, possibly on Teesside, where she was last seen alive, say police.

Detectives, who do not know how Vicky died, say they cannot now be sure where she was murdered.

Vicky, who lived in the Cannon Park area of Middlesbrough, turned to prostitution to finance her heroin habit.

Detectives know she was dropped off by taxi outside the Shipmate pub, Union Street, Middlesbrough, at about 4am on Sunday, September 24.

There, the trail goes cold. A man out walking his dog found Vicky's naked remains near remote West Lane, outside Danby.

She was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, with a "Sport" logo in red letters, light grey trousers and white trainers. Cleveland Police said yesterday that they did not know where her clothes were.

Officers, from both North Yorkshire and Cleveland Police, had carried out a "systematic search" for her clothes on the moor but drew a blank, said a spokesman.

They are now appealing for anyone finding any discarded clothing like those Vicky could have been wearing to contact them.

Detective Superintendent Brian Dunn, who is leading the murder inquiry, is also keen to speak to three or four other prostitutes who were working in the Union Street area when the taxi dropped Vicky off.
