A £1.2M learning centre with the latest computer technology is to open in Newcastle.
The centre, at West Gate Community College, will be funded under the Government's Excellence in Cities initiative and will be linked electronically to centres at Walbottle Campus, St Cuthbert's RC School and Sacred Heart RC High School.
An extra £220,000 a year for the next three years will cover staff and running costs.
Pupils will benefit from computer facilities, Internet access, video conferencing and the latest digital DVD equipment.
Excellence in Cities aims to raise standards in inner city areas. The centre is expected to open by September 2001
