POP group S Club 7 have met their new songwriting team - a group of North-East schoolchildren, who beat off competition from around the country for the honour.
Pupils from Greenfield Community and Arts College, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, won a national maths challenge to write a song on a mathematics theme for the group.
Last week, the songsmiths headed for the Abbey Road studios in London, made famous by The Beatles and more recently used by the Spice Girls and Oasis.
There, the pupils performed their composition with the superstars.
Music teacher Peter Simpson said yesterday: "The song was originally put together for S Club 7 by their producer and the girls had to write two verses to go with the chorus that he had already written."
With only 50 copies cut, one for each of the pupils taking part, the record is unlikely to make Top Of The Pops.
However, the band are top of the charts with the pupils, who had an unforgettable day mixing with the stars
