NORTH-EAST students will travel to London today to call for the reintroduction of university grants.
Members of Durham University's Student Union will join in a national protest march through the centre of the capital to a rally in Kennington Park.
The event is being organised by the National Union of Students to protest at tuition fees and the possibility of top-up fees being introduced.
A Durham Student Union spokesman said: "The amount of student debt is rising alarmingly and we think the Government should do something to prevent an increasing number of young people not entering the higher education because of the cost."
The union is also organising a rally at its base, Dunelm House. It will be addressed by Dr Tony Axon, of the Association of University Teachers in Scotland, where tuition fees have been scrapped
