A SENIOR detective who has led a string of murder investigations is the new head of Durham Police's Criminal Investigation Department.
Detective Superintendent Ian Scott took command of the 170-strong department this week, from David Grey who has retired.
The Durham-born 43-year-old, who describes himself as "a career detective", has been head of CID operations within force headquarters since November 1997. Since then he has worked with the Regional Crime Squad, in Teesside, and had spells at Darlington, Peterlee and Consett, the latter as detective inspector.
He spent two years in the force's complaints and discipline department before becoming chief inspector and then detective superintendent.
Other moves announced by the force include Detective Superintendent Harry Stephenson leaving the intelligence unit to take over as CID's operations commander. Dave Jones, until recently Darlington's crime manager, takes over the intelligence unit following his promotion to superintendent, and Detective Chief Inspector Ian MacDonald becomes crime manager in Darlington.
